Nevada Faces Continuous Poker Revenue Decline

According to the information presented in a recent report, a significant decline in Nevada poker revenue has been registered over the past several years. Now, with a new closure at the Monte Carlo, the Las Vegas Strip has been projected to face a quarter of poker tables-generated revenue smaller than the one generated in the region ten years earlier.

The Monte Carlo casino is scheduled to close a poker room featuring eight tables in about a month. This comes as part of reconstruction project which is estimated to $450 million.

Back in 2002, casinos in the Las Vegas Strip featured a total of 144 tables which accounted for a revenue of $30 million. The game of poker has became more popular, however, especially with the Texas Hold’em gaining popularity among local players. Then, in 2007, the Strip featured 405 tables, with them generating poker revenue estimated to $97 million. Only a year ago, in 2016 things were not so good for the Strip. The number of tables fell to 320, and so did the poker revenue, which amounted to $78 million.

Things were no very different across the state. The state of Nevada featured a total of 907 tables a decade ago, in 2007 when was the peak of the poker rooms in the region. At that time, the revenue generated by the poker tables amounted to $168 million. On the other hand, the results of the Strip were hit by a decline for a few years now. Last year, there was a considerably lower number of tables in the region – 661, with the revenue generated by them being estimated to $118 million, a sharp decline in comparison to the one registered only ten years earlier.

These days, casino and poker rooms are trying to improve their offerings so that they are able to meet customers demand and expectations in the best way possible. Unfortunately, over the past few years some casinos have decided to reduce the number of poker rooms available. Others have even fully eliminated them.

Still, casinos in Nevada are aimed at keeping their players in the establishments, especially considering the fact that the popularity of poker has never stopped increasing. The interest towards the game has been increasing a lot thanks to the rising popularity of the game.
